Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge seems to be a touristy thing to do. I questioned a number of native New Yorker’s about the experience, and none of them had ever done it! I had read that walking from the Brooklyn side to Manhattan was the best way to appreciate it, so I took the subway from Brooklyn into Manhattan, transferred to a train back into Brooklyn to High Street, where you find the entrance to the Bridge. You can either use Google Maps and click on the train/subway emblem for the appropriate subways/times or go to the MTA site. It’s only a mile across and the views are absolutely breathtaking!
I love bridges and this is now my favorite bridge! It was completed in 1883 and connects Brooklyn and Manhattan over the East River. I love all of the cables making it very mathematical and artistic!
Here’s a view of the Bridge next to it…
This is mid-way across. Most everyone was walking the opposite direction from me…into Brooklyn.
There is a bicycle lane and a people lane.
You can see the street and the river down below…
The view looking back into Brooklyn…
I think this is my favorite photo. I love all of the lines!
I took the subway up to Central Park for my 2 1/2 hr. guided bicycle tour after my walk…so don’t miss it tomorrow!

One of my favorite things to do when in NY. When I’ve done it, most of the people crossing the bridge clearly were not tourists.

Word has it that the designer of the Brooklyn Bridge, also, designed the Cincinnati Bridge.

My friend suggested we walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, and I questioned whether it was worth it – it definitely is. There’s also some good people watching there too!

Gorgeous pictures! I am not a native New Yorker but probably love this city as much as any passionate native New Yorker, and I love to cross the Bridge in both ways!

This brings back memories. A couple of years ago we were in NY and stayed on the Brooklyn side and walked across the bridge a few times. I loved it. I loved the experience of the Brooklyn stay. Previously we stayed in Manhattan right across from Central Park which I also loved.

What a shame! that I have been in New York but didn’t have a chance to walk on the bridge since I really like walking and it’s not that easy for me to visit that city again. Anyway, I wouldn’t miss it if I can go there again.

Wow .. have never seen the bridge like this before – wasn’t this the bridge in Saturday Night Ever … maybe I have to walk it too, but I think my poor feet are not so keen on doing it. My favorite is the photo where you can see the cars and the river.
Stunning galley again. See you tomorrow.

That is something to see. I would love to do that walk. It seems a lot of local people miss out on things just because they live where the attraction is. You would be surprised how many people who live in Niagara Falls never actually take the time to go and see God’s masterpiece.
