Muddy Rainforest, Adventure with H&J Island Adventures, and self-guided tour of El Yunque Rainforest

I went on the ‘Muddy Rainforest Adventure and Sightsee tour” with H & J Island Adventures. It truly was an adventure! We met for breakfast at 6:00 a.m. and then drove about 20 minutes into the rainforest. Jose was very helpful navigating the tree roots, rocks, and water crossings.

They said it was a little muddier than usual.  I got my gym shoe stuck a couple of times 😅. This was the area that wasn’t too muddy.

Sorry for the look at my behind, but it’s to give you the feeling that you’re on the hike.

Heidi was very informative about the plants in the rainforest.

We arrived at a waterfall and swam. It was refreshing after the hike. Jose dived from one of the rocks. There’s also a rope swing. We sat and played in the water. I felt like a kid again! I really enjoyed it!

So much beauty!

The next day I drove to El Yunque Rainforest.  I arrived at 7:00 a.m. to hike the Vereda Angelito aka Angelito Trail.  I was the first car there. I was almost at the turnaround point of the trail when it started to rain. I pulled out my $1 emergency rain poncho and put it on.  Note to self: put backpack on before putting emergency rain poncho on. There was no one else on the trail and no other cars parked when I returned. In the car, the emergency rain poncho clung to me like Saran wrap.

Next, I hiked the Torre Mount Britton Trail. It’s a 1.5 mile hike with 626 ft. elevation.

I carried one hiking pool with me that I didn’t need. But it occurred to me I could use it as a weapon if need be. Just before I got to the observation tower at the top, I heard some voices behind me. It was comforting to know someone would find my body if I collapsed.

I drove to Juan Diego Falls. It’s only a 5-minute walk up steps to reach the falls.

It was still pretty cloudy when I arrived at Torre Yokahú (observation tower). I didn’t feel like walking to the top.

Today I’m going on a powerboat snorkeling/island trip. I’ll post about that tomorrow.

  1. Gorgeous photos! We hiked these a few years back and were very glad we opted to go with a guide. The trails were so muddy and slick. Our shoes got stuck in the mud every few feet. I remember laughing a lot about it after the fact but not so much while out on the trails. The poncho clinging to you like saran wrap in the car def. brought back memories, ha!
