I’ve had this month long trip planned for a while now. I arrived in Phoenix yesterday, picked up my rental car and drove 1 hr. 45 mins. down to Tucson. After stopping for lunch and picking up some groceries, I unpacked at my Airbnb. I’ll only be here for a week and then I’ll be near Scottsdale for three weeks. I’m also hoping to spend a couple of days in Sedona. I’ve never been to these areas.
This morning I drove 30 minutes and hiked the Garwood trail in Saguaro Canyon East. It was about 37° at the beginning of the hike. Later, the day warmed up to 68°.
Then I drove to Aqua Caliente Regional Park. It’s beautiful, but small.
Next on the agenda was driving up to the top of Mt. Lemmon. It’s about 30 mi to the top and it rises 7,000 ft above Tucson, which sits at about 2,300 ft. It’s a beautiful, but long drive because of the speed limit and the twisty curvy road.
Today was a great start to my Arizona winter getaway!
Arizona is such a great place to visit

Yes, I wouldn’t want to live there though. I’m used to a lot of green. Plus it’s too hot 🥵

Absolutely fantastic pictures, Sherry. I’m sure you will enjoy that trip as much as we did ours to Sedona in 2019. There’s so much to see, not only the famous red rocks [https://wp.me/p4uPk8-2xc]. There’s also Walnut Creek Canyon [https://wp.me/p4uPk8-2tH] and Oak Creek Canyon https://wp.me/p4uPk8-2Dy%5D , and nearby Montezuma Castle [https://wp.me/p4uPk8-2Ba] and the Verde Canyon Railroad [https://wp.me/p4uPk8-2Cy] out of Clarksdale, to name but a few.
Enjoy!!

Having lived in Tucson for 13 years and hiked many time in Saguaro National Park East, I am quite familiar with the Garwood Trail. In fact, I always trained for my Camino de Santiago pilgrimages in Saguaro NP East. Tucson is a fantastic place to live.

Wow, that’s cool. My sister-in-law just did the Camino.

I’ve walked the Camino 14 times, I know I’m crazy! I have a Health & Wellness retreat business and still offer guided Camino tours in hotels with gourmet local cuisine as well as retreats.

Congratulations, dear Sherry. Arizona looks beautiful, and you’ve picked the right time of year to enjoy the southwest! I used to live in Scottsdale, AZ, and visited Sedona twice…it’s lovely, indeed, as is Flagstaff. Sending best wishes to you on your winter getaway! 😘🍀
