Reporting live from Cordoba, Spain

Yesterday was an adventure! I’m becoming somewhat proficient with monitoring the weather radar, but not perfect. I saw that the rain was going to let up for a bit, so I hurried out the door to cross the Roman Bridge of Cordoba (lots of flooding-see below).

My first stop was the Contemporary Art Museum aka Centro de Creación Contemporánea de Andalucía. The architecture is cool, and it’s free to get in, but there aren’t that many pieces, even though the building is quite large. When I left, there was a torrential downpour.

Next I went to the Torre de la Calahorra which houses the Living Museum of al-Andalu. The tower was built in the 13th century for defense and has been used as a prison and a school.

After climbing a steep spiral staircase to the top of the tower, there’s a sweeping view of the area. As I was taking photos, I noticed two guards at the entrance to the bridge, and it crossed my mind that they might close the bridge, so I hurried outside. They had cordoned the Bridge off behind the entrance of the museum, so I hurriedly walked across the Roman bridge, hoping the water wouldn’t destroy it and sweep me down the river. I was the only person on the bridge.

Torre de la Calahorra – there’s usually not water around it, it looks like a moat

Since I arrived on Monday, I’ve been dealing with the Airbnb host about a leak in the bathroom ceiling. He had workmen come in to cut a piece of drywall out and supposedly stop the leak. The cardboard patch is an eyesore. The host didn’t offer any compensation for all of the inconvenience. But then, it started leaking again last night, and I have to keep a bucket on my sink to catch the drops. He’s going to have me move tomorrow to another one of his units, a couple of doors down.
