Hiking in Iztaccihuatl – Popocatepetl National Park

This morning, I walked less than 10 minutes from my Airbnb to meet the tour I signed up for through Airbnb Experiences, to hike at Iztaccihuatl – Popocatepetl National Park.  The drive there took about an hour and a half, we stopped and had the best tamale for breakfast! The scenery was gorgeous and the weather was perfect. It felt so good to get out of the city!  The tour leader and the other couple on the hike were very nice.

Popocatepetl is an active volcano and is the second highest volcano in Mexico. There are frequent eruptions, ranging from very small to large, which require evacuation of surrounding towns. Iztaccihuatl is the third highest and has two glaciers. We hiked 6 mi and the elevation ranged from 12,100 ft to 13,450 ft.

We stopped for tacos on the way back to Mexico City.
