Dental tourism from San Diego to Tecate, Mexico

Sunday, I flew non-stop from Denver to San Diego for dental tourism in Mexico. My flight was delayed three times, and left 2 and 1/2 hours late. Luckily I monitored it from home and didn’t have to spend that time in the airport. I’m thankful it wasn’t canceled. Yesterday morning I drove 45 minutes from San Diego to Tecate, Mexico. The route to get there, Hwy. 94, wasn’t crowded, but it is a twisty road through boulder strewn mountains. Perhaps I should call them big hills having lived in Colorado for 4 months now. I arrived a couple of hours before my appointment time, in case there was a holdup at the border, etc. and parked at T.C. Worthy Cash & Carry.

They only charge $10 per day to park in their lot. From there it’s a 2-minute walk across the border. It was around 10:00 a.m., and there was no line. They didn’t even check my passport. Once across I walked a few minutes to Miguel de Hidalgo Parque.

A dentist in Denver quoted $6,400 for three crowns. A & R Dental, located right across the border in Tecate only charges $1,000. Dr. Landavazo was my dentist and I was impressed with how professional and personable he and his office are. I have temporary crowns for now. And I’ll go back either Friday or Tuesday to get the permanent ones put on. I’ve never done anything like this, but I did quite a bit of research before choosing them.

When I returned to San Diego, I had enough time to check out most of the gardens at Balboa Park. I’ll go back again this week to explore the art museum.

Since it’s Veterans Day today, I’ll have to look for some deals.
