Looking back, my decision to resign from a traditional 8 to 5 job to take care of my mother, was the beginning of a wonderful chapter in my life! Working in the corporate world for 30 years and raising a son left little time to discover my likes/dislikes. I soon discovered that traveling is in my blood (I’ve moved over 40 times) and have been fortunate to be able to explore more than 60 countries, via Couchsurfing, Airbnb, VRBO, and some of the more conventional ways.

Starting my own meetup, “Travel Spirit Meetup”, enabled me to take over 20 people through 24 countries in Europe and Central America between 2014 and 2016! I’ve had time to take some photography classes and was a Photographer and Travel Writer for Cincinnati Refined for five years, in addition to taking senior, family, real estate and other types of photographs through my own business. I started a business in 2016 taking people on tours of Cincinnati and by 2019 had hired seven freelance Tour Guides and was #1 on Trip Advisor! Since the pandemic hit, I’ve dissolved the company and am now retired.

Teaching myself how to use Lightroom, making over 250 new Recipes in 18 months, and starting this blog which now has over 5,000 followers have been a few of my accomplishments. Hiking solo to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, finishing my first half marathon, hiking for over 3 days in Peru to Machu Picchu, sky diving, and traveling over 5,000 miles in an Overland Truck through six African countries, camping most of the way are a few more.

I’m a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army for four years, stationed in Germany for the majority of that time and have my B.A. in Business from the University of Texas at Dallas.

I live in Northern Kentucky, having moved from a country setting in Northern Cincinnati in 2019 after my husband passed away. My only child passed away in 2019, a year after my husband. I know they want me to be happy and to continue living life with as much enthusiasm and wonder as before.

Your visits are my reward.

  2. There only one word that I can think of to describe you blog, “amazing”. I would to ask you question. I to would like to travel one day, but just like you, am also looking for employment. How to people such as yourself afford to travel so much? I have a lot of friend who travel here and there, I wonder, how can they afford to travel so much. Is it just saving money or just looking for those travel deals? Thanks!:)

    • Thank you so much for the sweet compliment Mike! To answer your question, it’s a combination of both. Also, if you join Couchsurfing.org you can stay with people for free and learn from locals about the area…and make new friends. There are tricks and tips for less expensive travel. For example, if you’re going to dine out, go out for lunch, it’s generally less expensive and then have something light for dinner, or if you’re in a place with a kitchen, you can cook something quickly. I should do a post about all of the tips I’ve learned through the years. Perhaps you should go to bartender school and as you travel, get a job as a bartender everywhere you go for part of the visit…it’s called slow travel. Good luck and thanks for the follow!!

  9. Sherry, thank you for you’re recent visit to my blog. I love your energy and perspective towards life. I also do yoga and currently having to take it easy because of a minor knee injury. I couldn’t ask for a better time (during the holidays) to reflect on things while healing. Reflection and healing.. is like getting 2 experiences for the price one!     I notice a post of your on Andrews site in Ecuador. You mentioned the thought of spending some time there to consider whether it might be a good place to live.     Married to my Ecuadorian sweetheart for 43 years, having lived in Quito for 10 years with my own business, retiring there in 2014 will give you some idea that I both know and love Ecuador. But see for yourself. I could go on for pages as I am both a word merchant and writer, whatever that is.

  16. Oh yes…I’m a baby boomer from the fifties! It’s great to see how your mission to inspire and empower others has become a lifelong goal. People who inspire and empower others are like angels from heaven in a world that needs more. I like your comment about not always taking life too seriously all the time – my motto exactly. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Get the job done then go out and play. Balance…it’s the key to a happy and healthy life, but I think you already know that…right?
