Socializing, hiking in the Blue Ridge mountains, and cycling the Thermal Belt Trail

This past week I signed up to be a mentor for 7th graders. I hiked two trails, a 5.5 mi and a 7 mi. The 7 mi. was mostly in the rain, which made for a very atmospheric hike. I dined out a few times with groups. Attended a couple of parties and played Mexican train dominoes and cornhole.

Yesterday, I cycled 28 mi on the Thermal Belt Trail and went to three classes at the YMCA.

I enjoy staying busy, but I’m a little sore 🥴. This morning I’m headed to hike again.

  1. Reading your week left me a little breathless in the best way — a 7-mile hike in the rain, 28 miles on the Thermal Belt Trail, YMCA classes, and mentoring 7th graders on top of it all. Calling that rainy hike ‘atmospheric’ rather than a washout is exactly the right attitude; some of our most memorable family walks have been the soggy ones. No wonder you’re a little sore — enjoy this morning’s trail.
