Looking back, my decision to resign from a traditional 8 to 5 job to take care of my mother, was the beginning of a wonderful chapter in my life! Working in the corporate world for 30 years and raising a son left little time to discover my likes/dislikes. I soon discovered that traveling is in my blood (I’ve moved over 40 times) and have been fortunate to be able to explore more than 60 countries, via Couchsurfing, Airbnb, VRBO, and some of the more conventional ways.

Starting my own meetup, “Travel Spirit Meetup”, enabled me to take over 20 people through 24 countries in Europe and Central America between 2014 and 2016! I’ve had time to take some photography classes and was a Photographer and Travel Writer for Cincinnati Refined for five years, in addition to taking senior, family, real estate and other types of photographs through my own business. I started a business in 2016 taking people on tours of Cincinnati and by 2019 had hired seven freelance Tour Guides and was #1 on Trip Advisor! Since the pandemic hit, I’ve dissolved the company and am now retired.

Teaching myself how to use Lightroom, making over 250 new Recipes in 18 months, and starting this blog which now has over 5,000 followers have been a few of my accomplishments. Hiking solo to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, finishing my first half marathon, hiking for over 3 days in Peru to Machu Picchu, sky diving, and traveling over 5,000 miles in an Overland Truck through six African countries, camping most of the way are a few more.

I’m a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army for four years, stationed in Germany for the majority of that time and have my B.A. in Business from the University of Texas at Dallas.

I live in Northern Kentucky, having moved from a country setting in Northern Cincinnati in 2019 after my husband passed away. My only child passed away in 2019, a year after my husband. I know they want me to be happy and to continue living life with as much enthusiasm and wonder as before.

Your visits are my reward.

  7. Yes!!! Isn’t that funny that I should meet you RIGHT NOW the week before Symposium!!! I live in Sacramento; I’ll be there!!! I can’t wait to meet you. The best part for me at ITMI was meeting the other 25 classmates – they were kindred spirits – we bonded! I can feel it with you too.

    What a neat blog name! Thanks for “liking” my blog. We have a lot of similarities – yet different. I’m looking forward to reading more. Since I haven’t read more yet, I don’t know what direction you took – teaching English as a second language or Tour Directing, but I chose tour directing and just graduated from ITMI which I mention in my blog. You might want to check them out!!! There are paying jobs out there for experienced travelspirits like us!

I’m starting a year of travel (Heifer 12 x 12: 12 countries in 12 months in 2012 for Heifer International) and think we’re probably kindred (travel) spirits!! Would love to talk to you about your theme .. did you alter it or does Twenty-Ten allow you to put together the collages that I love so much??

  12. Thanks for visit my blog. I was a high school history teacher for 33 years here in Miami. I am envious that I have traveled very little(well I did go to the mall a few times) and have not seen all the historical things you have. Looks like your stuff will be interesting to me.

  31. Inspiring 🙂 My mum is also fifty-ish and is learning how to travel solo. About two years ago I took myself on a honeymoon with myself to Barcelona. Must admit, was the best trip I had ever done in my life! ~Cheers~

    I will be 34 this september & your blog is very encouraging for someone like me who is very fidgety with life at the moment.
    In my younger days, I have eaten alone at a restaurant, journeyed alone, toiled alone but as I grow older, its funny that instead of feeling more secure with myself, I feel the need to BE secured by someone, even if its just by my 5-year old.

    I’ve just stumbled upon your blog today, and would like you to know how inspirational you are to me. I’m 20 years old, have attended classes in Lima, Peru for two months and classes in Florence, Italy for four months. Currently saving up for my next abroad adventure. So many of the places you’ve been and things you have done are on my list of goals! It’s wonderful to hear traveling stories from your point of view because they make my goals seem attainable. Whereas I usually delve into National Geographic magazines and documentaries thinking of plans on how to land a job with them! Anyways I’m rambling, but basically what I’m trying to say is:

  47. Army life at 18 … me too! We moved all the time when I was a child as well. Taking a sabbatical in order to travel after your child graduated from high school, me too … only I have a daughter instead of a son. It looks as if we’ve shared some very similar experiences. I’m off to have a good nose around your blog now. Thanks for commenting on my July 4th post so I could follow it back to your blog home. Oh yeah … one last thing, in September I’ll be 50 as well.
