Meet Sherry

Looking back, my decision to resign from a traditional 8 to 5 job to take care of my mother, was the beginning of a wonderful chapter in my life! Working in the corporate world for 30 years and raising a son left little time to discover my likes/dislikes. I soon discovered that traveling is in my blood (I’ve moved over 40 times) and have been fortunate to be able to explore more than 60 countries, via Couchsurfing, Airbnb, VRBO, and some of the more conventional ways.

Starting my own meetup, “Travel Spirit Meetup”, enabled me to take over 20 people through 24 countries in Europe and Central America between 2014 and 2016! I’ve had time to take some photography classes and was a Photographer and Travel Writer for Cincinnati Refined for five years, in addition to taking senior, family, real estate and other types of photographs through my own business. I started a business in 2016 taking people on tours of Cincinnati and by 2019 had hired seven freelance Tour Guides and was #1 on Trip Advisor! Since the pandemic hit, I’ve dissolved the company and am now retired.

Teaching myself how to use Lightroom, making over 250 new Recipes in 18 months, and starting this blog which now has over 5,000 followers have been a few of my accomplishments. Hiking solo to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, finishing my first half marathon, hiking for over 3 days in Peru to Machu Picchu, sky diving, and traveling over 5,000 miles in an Overland Truck through six African countries, camping most of the way are a few more.

I’m a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army for four years, stationed in Germany for the majority of that time and have my B.A. in Business from the University of Texas at Dallas.

I live in Northern Kentucky, having moved from a country setting in Northern Cincinnati in 2019 after my husband passed away. My only child passed away in 2019, a year after my husband. I know they want me to be happy and to continue living life with as much enthusiasm and wonder as before.

Your visits are my reward.

I prefer not to accept awards…thank you for the thought!

  7. S ~ Thanks for your recent “like” of my blog post regarding thoughts from a hammock in Guatemala. I’ve studied your travel resume and we’ve crossed a lot of paths. There were a few years when I burned through passports and couldn’t get enough of life on the road. Then three years ago I moved to Maine and the travel bug took up and flew off. I’ve had no hankering or inkling to head out for some time now. I’ve been told that I finally arrived at my destination.

That said, my first trip abroad in three years is coming up in May. My son, who thru-hiked the Appalachian last summer, Georgia to Maine, convinced me to join him on a three week trek of the Annapurna circuit in Nepal. I’m fifty six, with only one real hip left–what was I thinking! It will be my second trip to Nepal and joking aside I can’t wait to get back in the mountains, this time with my sun.

Perhaps the bug to travel had simply gone into hibernation.

I look forward to reading of your adventures.
    Regards.

  11. Thank you for publishing about your travels, including your fascinating photography. I’m looking forward to browsing your blog more. And…learning…about what I might like to do and where I might like to go. Your bucket list inspires me to create one for myself. I’m not even sure what I’d want to put on it, but you’ve got the wheels rolling in my mind.

  15. Sherry–
Your work here shows that you have found a thoughtful voice in both images and travels. Admired your candor and openness.

Always enjoy getting a notice that someone new has happened upon and enjoyed my blog “Travels of Bogie.” Imagine my delight when I read that you are from Cincinnati. As you may have discovered in reading my site, through one of those often unexplicable twists of fate I came for a great career opportunity. I’ve been here about 2 1/2 years. The exploring has been interesting. The adjustment to this very different culture has been a challenge. Would love to hear more about your time here and the wonderful and unique that I may have yet to discover.

Fellow traveler, may the road ahead be smooth with a breathtaking view.

  16. HI
Thank you for liking my post.
I agree with you – collect experiences not things, which is why my husband and I moved to India in 2008 and we have never regretted it for a moment.
When you do get to visit India then I hope you can come down this way and collect a few more experiences and memories to treasure!
