Dates, Hiking, the Gym & Cooking

My activities for the past week have included meeting two new potential dates, hiking, working out at the gym, cooking, and meeting a new girlfriend for happy hour.

I drove an hour north to the historic Clifton Mill for my first date, had lunch, a short hike along the Clifton Gorge, and browsed the shops in a quaint town called Yellow Springs, Ohio.

There’s a weekly hike at Spring Grove Cemetery through a hiking group I belong to. As you can see from the photos below, it’s a beautiful place to walk. It’s mostly active people in their 60s.

I can tell my body is responding to my workout regimen at the gym. I’m getting some guns on me 😅. In my quest to eat healthy, I made homemade roasted minestrone soup, and then treated myself to a root beer float.

I had a first date (now I call them meet and greets) yesterday for a bite to eat in Covington, Kentucky and then a walk along the river front in the Licking Riverside Historic District. When you get to be in your 60s, many people don’t like to have their photo taken, but I always say today’s the youngest you’ll ever be, and in 10 years, if you’re still alive, you’ll think gosh I really looked good.

I met a new girlfriend through hiking. She’s a nurse. We met for happy hour and appetizers last night. It was nice getting to know her better. As we left, the setting sun was beautiful.

I have another meet and greet today. Tomorrow for Easter I’ll be spending it with my brother, his wife and others that are like family.

Hope everyone has a Happy Easter! 🐰

Ohio Bucket List

Miles of pristine forested hiking, outdoor cafes, resplendent architecture, astonishing views, thrilling adventures, intoxicating gardens! Does this sound like your kind of get-away? Ohio has all of this and more!  Here are a few of my favorite places…

The Fling Barn (Hillsboro, Ohio)

Situated on a 200-acre farm, an hour East of Cincinnati, The Fling Barn is a well-kept secret (well…not anymore) where you’re guaranteed to have a good time! Stuffed to the gills with Americana décor, featuring two bars, a dance floor, outdoor deck, and live rock n blues…it don’t get much better than that! In case you have too much fun, they have their very own Bed & Breakfast for your convenience, if it’s available.

Put-in-Bay

Located on Lake Erie, just over 4 hours North of Cincinnati, Put-in-Bay is Ohio’s split personality playground with a wild side to dive into…pretty people in skimpy bathing suits guzzling tropical adult beverages, but hop on a golf cart and within minutes you’re transported to a lake-side paradise of glistening blue water, rolling hills, and tranquility!

Funky Yellow Springs, Ohio

Yellow Springs, Ohio is one of the most eclectic small towns (that I’m aware of) within 100 miles of Cincinnati!  You’ll find Antioch College, founded in 1852, a progressive liberal arts college located in the heart of Yellow Springs.  After hiking at John Bryan State Park yesterday, we stopped here and walked the few blocks that comprise the main area of town.

Here are some of the treats we encountered…

This is the ceiling of the outdoor movie theater awning…

I love to find the unexpected…like the reflection in this glass…

Artists and “hippies” love to frequent this area.  The faint drifting scent of marijuana lingers here and there.  You’ll find hand painted benches…

And most of the shops are painted unusual colors…

Whimsical…colorful…fun…enticing…

Shimmering…..

I love the living tapestry inviting you into this restaurant…

You don’t have to look far to find beauty!
