A beautiful woman is the one who never compares herself with others, because what others have doesn’t make her feel insecure…

A beautiful woman uses Her lips for truth, Her voice for kindness, Her ears for compassion, Her hands for charity, Her heart for love, For those who don’t like her she uses prayer…

Baby Lockland

My newborn baby photography session on Saturday was extraordinary, sweet, draining, and funny!  I drove 45 minutes to the client’s home and luckily they had a huge window in the living room that provided spectacular natural light.  While the mother was finishing feeding the baby, I took some photos of their very active and darling three-year old daughter.  But first, I’ll show you some of my favorites of the baby.  I initially told my friend (the Grandmother) that we should set the appointment up for the photos when he was two to three weeks old.  This being my first newborn photo shoot, I didn’t realize until later that the pros recommend taking the photos when the newborn is 10 to 14 days old.  Lockland is 3 1/2 weeks old, so he wasn’t quite as sleepy and flexible, but he did great!  After checking out poses on Pinterest to come up with some ideas, I brought a large wicker basket with me and took this shot…

The Grandmother brought a large Christmas stocking for us to place the baby in.  It looks like he’s saying “ho..ho..ho”!

Of course, I used Lightroom to soften his baby acne…

My brother and family

This past weekend, I had fun taking photographs of my brother, sister-in-law, nephew and niece.  The weather wasn’t suitable for outside shots, so we racked our brains trying to think of places to get some cool and interesting photos.  We finally decided to meet in Downtown Cincinnati and check out some of the hotels.  This fun Christmas shot was taken in the Westin Hotel lobby.  It took a while because people kept walking behind them!

What’s Been Goin’ On…

It’s been a busy 10 days, but I wanted to catch you up on what’s been going on with me lately.  In addition to the previous senior photo shoots of Sami Jo and Vivian, I attended a Bengals football party at a friends’ house, but didn’t watch a minute of the game.  I’m not much of a sports watching fan.  I enjoy the conversation with friends at parties and love to be active, hiking, jogging, biking, etc.  I contacted an acquaintance, who is a model, to see if he’d like to meetup at an area park for a quick outdoor photo shoot and to get to know each other a bit better.  He usually does magazine or runway modeling, so I thought a fun casual shoot might be a change of pace for him.  Isn’t he cute…

Vivian

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”  ~Marianne Williamson

Hula Hoop Girl

I introduced you to Sami Jo in yesterday’s post and wanted to share some of her hula hooping photos from our Senior Photo shoot…

Gretchen

Photographing young people is one of my favorite things to do.  Most have such an open spirit and a fresh optimism that’s contagious.  Gretchen is beautiful both inside and out and was a joy to photograph!

DSC_5669

A brother and sister accompanied her for the shoot and helped me with the props and eagerly threw leaves on her when requested…

DSC_5632

She will be twelves years old soon and these photographs were to celebrate that milestone.  This was the last photo I took.  I saw a children’s slide and had her bolster herself on it while I stood above to capture the shot.

DSC_5703

We went down by the creek for some photographs.  She forgot shoes to match her other outfit and went barefoot although it was quite chilly out.

I hope to retain the qualities that children possess!

Beautiful Woman

I had the opportunity yesterday to photograph a beautiful woman.  Her name is Carrie Kondor and she was referred to me by the Yoga instructor that I recently took photos for.  Carrie is starting her own business.  She teaches meditation, yoga, and some type of healing; wherein while the person is lying down, she beats a drum to open their chakras.  She reminds me of a cross between Carly Simon and Seane Corn (whom she admires).

Doesn’t she have a great smile…so full of life!

She arrived with a variety of outfits and colorful scarves…

Yogi Photo Shoot

A friend on Facebook gave my name to one of her friends, Pamela Quinn, who was looking for a photographer to do some work at her yoga studio, Elemental OM.  There were some specific guidelines as far as how much free horizontal space was necessary and how large the photo needed to be before it was cropped, but I also took some fun photos.

As you can see, my job was quite easy with such a beautiful subject…

DSC_4996

I didn’t give her any direction as far as poses, and our time together flowed really well.  She would do her thing and I would capture it…

Love this one…

Pamela wants me to come back next week to take photos during one of her classes and one of her friends saw her photos on Facebook and wants me to take photographs for her.  Technology definitely has its advantages!

Western & Southern Open Fashion Show

The Western and Southern Open Fashion Show, sponsored by Cincy Chic, was a fun event to photograph for Cincinnati Refined!  I continue to have “firsts” as I work assignments for Cincinnati Refined as I’ve never photographed a fashion show before.  A couple of the models were definitely uncomfortable and insecure and it showed, but I think it’s important to push ourselves to do things that we’re not comfortable with, so we grow and develop our skills and potential to their fullest!

Western & Southern Open

The Western & Southern Open is being held August 9 – 17, 2014, here in Cincinnati, Ohio and I was on assignment today.  It was my first experience taking tennis photographs and I wasn’t sure what to expect.  It’s been a long day.  I began by leaving my home at 7:30am and returned after noon.  The remainder of the day (until 8:30pm) I’ve spent editing photos.  I think I did fairly well for my first time.

After researching the players, I decided to photograph the match between Ben Becker from Germany and Malek Jaziri from Tunisia

Little Nashville Newport, Kentucky

I recently had a photo shoot assignment for iSPYCincy (now known as “Cincinnati Refined”) at Little Nashville Newport in Kentucky.  The establishment is fairly new and the Band that night was Aly’ Ann.  I didn’t take my tripod, but still managed to capture a few good shots of the lead singers.  I’ve been to the “real” Nashville and this was the next best thing!

The Color Run in Cincinnati

The Color Run (aka “The Happiest 5K on the Planet”) took place in Cincinnati on Saturday morning and that meant there were clouds of color, smiling faces, and sweaty bodies!  The Color Run is this and so much more.  It represents accomplishment for many for running or walking a 5K and just a fun time for others!   I was so happy to have this assignment for Cincinnati Refined (previously known as iSPYCINCY) and arrived downtown Cincinnati early to capture all of the excitement!  Being a jogger myself, part of me wished I was participating…but either way, I was happy to be there!

I can’t help it…I love to photograph girls in brightly colored tutus and mis-matched socks!

Guinness Book of World Record for the Most People Salsa Dancing

Thursday evening, July 24, 2014 is a day to go down in the record books, specifically the Guinness World Records book, for the City of Cincinnati to beat Mexico’s past record of the largest Salsa dance, with over 2,000 people moving to the rhythm!  I was there to capture the excitement and energy for iSPYCINCY taking photographs of the event.  Green “Gain” shirts were given out to the attendees, as you can see in the photo…

DSC_1434

My husband accompanied me, as usual, and since it was a perfect evening for motorcycle riding, we arrived on our Harley.  He dropped me off so I could get started while he parked the bike.  My first shot was of this performer on the sidewalk next to Fountain Square
