Sibiu, Romania has it’s eyes on you!
One of the first things I noticed while roaming the streets of Sibiu, Romania were the roof vents that appear to be eyes. So cool! If you’ve never heard of Sibiu, you’re not alone. Before planning my Eastern European journey, I hadn’t either. Sibiu was originally part of Germany and dates back to the 12th Century. After World War I, it became part of Romania.
In 2007 it was designated the European Capital of Culture for the year, along with Luxembourg. Forbes has ranked Sibiu as “Europe’s 8th most idyllic place to live.
My last post left off with having stopped in Sighasoara for a few hours on route from Brasov to Sibiu. We boarded the 3:00pm train in Sighasoara, after picking up our luggage from the holding room at the train station, and arrived in Sibiu at 6:05pm. We walked the 1/3 mile to our Airbnb and after settling in, walked to a nearby Supermarket for some breakfast items.
The following morning, with only one full day to explore, we set off to see this delightful City!

It was a perfect day for exploring…blue skies and comfortable temperatures!
The Time Machine
The Kimmel Center in Philadelphia has a very creative exhibit in their foyer known as “The Time Machine“. I didn’t have time (no pun intended) to see their free musical called “Flash of Time”, but just stopping in to take photos of this installation was interesting!
Spunky South Street Philadelphia
The area known as South Street in Philadelphia is approximately 10 blocks long and has a fun bohemian flair! With over 300 shops and 60 restaurants, it’s a great place to people watch, wander into eclectic shops, have a famous Philly Cheesesteak, or listen to music! I had read when I returned home, that the area has been known for being a bit seedy or perhaps even dangerous…but I didn’t sense that and felt perfectly safe as a solo female traveler!

Reds Baseball Opening Day Parade
I’ve never attended the Findlay Market Parade or festivities for the Reds Baseball Opening Day in Cincinnati…up until Monday! It was tons of fun! The parade winds around Downtown. We were at Fountain Square, where there were booths, music, food and drink! I went with a few girlfriends and wanted to share some of our fun with you. It wasn’t rainy…this photo is of a cool water feature in the Banks area of Downtown Cincinnati.
Japps in Over The Rhine
There’s a bar in Over The Rhine (an area of town in Cincinnati Ohio) called Japps Since 1879 and I had been wanting to check it out, so I stopped in. It used to be a hair store. This is the head mixologist–Molly. I love her tattoos and style! And the bar is fabulous! It’s housed in a restored historical building with live music, yummy craft cocktails and a unique atmosphere!
I’m in Lust with Over the Rhine
Over the Rhine is amazing! Talk about an area of Cincinnati that has been revitalized! Just in the past year or two…so much progress has been made in turning this area into a fun, safe, historic and beautiful section of Cincinnati to visit. My girlfriend Gina and I arrived early Friday evening to walk around and enjoy the sunshine, along with warmer (50’s) temperatures. The architecture is beyond cool!

Life’s a Beach in Dunedin, Florida
Dunedin, Florida reminds me of Yellow Springs, Ohio. It’s artsy–small–cute–quaint–spiritual! Zully (my blogger friend) and I stopped by there on Wednesday morning.
One of the shops is very spiritual with crystals, books on Shamanism, sage. I love the painted tree with artificial vines…

We took a quick walk on the pier in Dunedin and I followed this Great Egret around trying to get a good photo. He had just eaten something (a fish, we think) because his neck had a big bulge!
The day’s not over yet! Zully went to lunch with a friend…I got my nails done and tomorrow I’ll post about our evening on Pier 60!

Clearwater, Florida with Zully
One of the many fun aspects of blogging is to get to meet–in person–fellow bloggers that you’ve known through their blogs! I was anxious to meet Zully (rhymes with Julie) from the Spiritual World Traveler, so I left my VRBO condo in the Panhandle of Florida two days early and drove the 7 hours to Zully’s condo, where I would be staying for a few days, before continuing my trip down to the Ft. Myers/Cape Coral area. We talked late into the night and I slept great in her extra bedroom (loved the down comforter)! She has frequent guests. I can see why–she’s so friendly and makes everyone feel so welcome! The following day we went exploring.
First, we stopped at one of her favorite restaurants, The Ohana Cafe, and had an early lunch (since we skipped breakfast). They offer fresh, delicious organic–vegetarian food and the staff and owner are so friendly! I had a veggie burger.
This is the lovely Zully. It was a bit chilly so she had a colorful scarf wrapped around her…
Next, we drove downtown, parked and began walking. Although Zully has lived here for over two years, she is still exploring the area and this was a new experience for her also. We passed by this cute miniature park that was built by the committee, Citizens for a better Clearwater“, in working towards bettering downtown Clearwater.

Our final destination for the day…Clearwater Beach! Zully informed me that the busy season for the Tampa area beaches is beginning now. It was picture perfect with the beautiful white sand!
We walked along Pier 60, where every night you’ll find live music, street performers, and festivities!
We took a stroll where the touristy shops were. This Hooters bicycle of course, would have huge tires!
This “Jaws” boat was cool!
We drove back home and I made a trip to the grocery for fresh produce for salads, berries for homemade smoothies, and eggs and freshly baked bread for breakfast! Next on the agenda is exploring some of the small towns in the area!

Downtown Asheville Street Art
Asheville, North Carolina has some fun and funky street art! Armed with an Urban Trail/Public Art Map from the Visitor’s Center, I parked in the Wall Street lot (free for the first hour…75 cents ea additional) around 8:30am and set off to explore. These photos aren’t in chronological order.

Street Art and Wine in Columbus
One of the advantages to staying in the City center when you travel is the ability to walk to most of the activities you choose to do. While in Columbus this past weekend for my annual girls’ weekend, we decided to go to a winery that was almost two miles from our hotel. Some other activities on our “to do” list were the Columbus Museum of Art, dinner at Martini Modern Italian Restaurant, listen to a live band at Park Street Tavern, and hiking at Scioto Audubon Metro Park. I printed off directions to each location.
We set off walking on High Street, which is the main drag filled with restaurants and bars. Here are some of the sights along the way…
Compared to Cincinnati, downtown Columbus seemed smaller and cleaner. I really enjoy street art and there seemed to be quite a bit of it…
I’m always excited to find interesting architecture and when I saw this man leaning against this building, I knew the composition was nice…

Camelot Cellars, the winery we went to was very nice. The wine was excellent and the interior had a loft feel with the brick walls and high ceilings. The only drawback was the lady that waited on us. Her vibe was definitely negative.
There were only two other couples there and one of them was sitting at the bar with us. The woman had a huge camera and I thought she was just taking photos for fun, but then the girl across the room let out a gasp and began kissing her boyfriend. We quickly caught on that he had just proposed to her and the photographer was there to capture the moment! It was so cute!
I know this is a little weird, but I noticed a gnat in my friend’s glass of wine. So, after I fished it out for her she put her glass on top of it. I thought it would make a cool macro shot!
We wandered through some of the shops we passed during the walk home. This one was so colorful…
