Ohio Bucket List

Miles of pristine forested hiking, outdoor cafes, resplendent architecture, astonishing views, thrilling adventures, intoxicating gardens! Does this sound like your kind of get-away? Ohio has all of this and more!  Here are a few of my favorite places…

The Fling Barn (Hillsboro, Ohio)

Situated on a 200-acre farm, an hour East of Cincinnati, The Fling Barn is a well-kept secret (well…not anymore) where you’re guaranteed to have a good time! Stuffed to the gills with Americana décor, featuring two bars, a dance floor, outdoor deck, and live rock n blues…it don’t get much better than that! In case you have too much fun, they have their very own Bed & Breakfast for your convenience, if it’s available.

Put-in-Bay

Located on Lake Erie, just over 4 hours North of Cincinnati, Put-in-Bay is Ohio’s split personality playground with a wild side to dive into…pretty people in skimpy bathing suits guzzling tropical adult beverages, but hop on a golf cart and within minutes you’re transported to a lake-side paradise of glistening blue water, rolling hills, and tranquility!

Through the Fog

Just after dawn the other morning, I crept through the morning fog, down the dirt road I live on, alert for nature unfolding.  The neighbor’s cat peered at me while I took his photo…

Boudoir Photography

Boudoir photography is so much fun!  The creative possibilities are endless.  The first step is ensuring your model is comfortable with you and that you provide a warm environment, which can be difficult during this seemingly endless bitter cold February in Cincinnati!  I recently did a photo shoot with my Model, Christy, and we clicked (no pun intended), which put her at ease.  For this first photo, I had the idea of wrapping her in cellophane.  We weren’t sure at first how the photos would turn out, because I wrapped her a little too tight, but I think it’s cute!

DSC_0591

This is Christy’s favorite photo.  Doesn’t she have beautiful hair?

DSC_0665

I’ve had a difficult time finding a willing subject for this type of shoot.  Most women feel that they need to lose a few pounds and feel they have to be perfect, and often think they’re too old.  Christy is in her mid-30’s and looks great!

We were both on the same page as far as the over all “look” we were trying to achieve…sexy, fun, and tasteful!

Be My Valentine

To all those who are feeling lonely or unloved…I send a special message of Love!

DSC_0283

I recently set up an at home photography studio, with used lighting and backdrops and took photos of a special woman named Christy!

I’ve been pinning modeling poses to my Pinterest board and used a few of them for her session…

She wanted some “corporate” photos and I especially liked this one (even though she thinks it looks like she’s chewing on the pencil)…a sexy executive look!

My husband and I decided to stay in tonight…(it’s too cold) by the warm fire!  He’s preparing a steak dinner…I’m fortunate to have him.  Sending all of you a hug! xoxo

The Emotion Behind Writing and Abstract Photography

DSC_9927

My deck with this morning’s snow…

I’ve prepared a short paragraph describing the emotions I feel when I write for a new Meetup I’m attending this evening, and wanted to share it with you.  I usually give photography most of my creative energy, but really enjoy writing!  Here it is:

A few words make their way from my brain to my fingertips and appear on my computer screen. Sometimes they come in short bursts, and other times they are hesitant, reluctantly surfacing. Once arriving, their place is not guaranteed. Without warning, one or more may disappear, letter by letter, in a backwards fashion. Having never considered how it feels to be born, the process halts as the words question their creator. How do you feel when you create me? Desiring to deliver a thorough answer, I dig deep inside and answer, “It’s complicated. Each time I think of one of you, I’m not able to fully capture the essence of my feelings. It occurs to me to list one of you at a time, as you enter my thoughts, and perhaps connected, as a team, you’ll allow my audience to perceive my emotions as if I were a book to read.”

Freedom, creative, struggle, inadequate, proud, lonely, beautiful and accomplishment.

Back to photography!  Here are a few more of my recently captured abstract photographs.  The above photo is of leaves frozen in a small pond in our yard, entitled “Trapped”.

Do you have a favorite photo?  What do you think of my short paragraph?

Model Shoot at PhotoPro Expo – 2015; Cincinnati, Ohio

The PhotoPro Expo- 2015, held at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center, is filled with exhibits for every level of photographer!  I spent three hours talking with professional photographers, mostly surrounding lighting options, listened to a couple of short presentations about portrait posing and lighting, and taking photographs of a few models that were available for photo shoots.  Arriving when it first opened at 11am yesterday, I made my way to the Beach Party models and began shooting.  They were quite stiff and awkward with their initial poses, so I developed a rapport with them and gave suggestions for posing.

They really livened up!  I asked the young lady to hop on the young man’s back…

A beautiful woman is the one who never compares herself with others, because what others have doesn’t make her feel insecure…

Hiking at Buzzardroost Rock & don’t forget the Wine

Buzzardroost Rock is a moderately difficult 3.5 – 4.4 mile round trip trail (depending on where you begin) in the Edge of Appalachia Preserve system of Adams County, Ohio.  Far above the waters of Ohio Brush Creek, the panoramic scene from this hilltop has been called Ohio’s most spectacular view.  I organized the hike through Tri-State Hiking Club, one of my meetup.com organizations and guided approximately 20 people.  Most of us met at a carpool location because the trail is almost an hour and one-half from Cincinnati.

The view is outstanding!

Here I am looking quite triumphant having reached the top.

2014 in Review

2014 has been a year filled with photography and travel…Imagine that!  Comparing my 2013 in Review: jogging, biking, hiking, and a bit of water skiing continued to keep my over 55-year-old body lookin’ good, along with lots of new recipes and mostly healthy eating!

This year became more balanced with less play and more work…which means more money…hallelujah!  During the summer I worked part-time for a farm at their Fruit & Vegetable Stands (until my back couldn’t take it any more).

I’ve had over 20 photo shoots for my own business, “Sherry Lachelle Photography”…including baby photos…

Merry Christmas from Florida

Spending Christmas in Florida is fun!  This is the first time my husband and I have been somewhere warm over the holidays.  After savoring a home cooked turkey dinner, we headed out to the hot tub and pool and got a little silly.  We talked about past snow skiing trips while enjoying the warm weather.

Not looking so happy here…

New Playmate at the Beach

My husband arrived in Florida yesterday and I was one happy camper beachcomber!  I greeted him in the airport parking lot with a kiss and a homemade frozen Pina Colada.  We enjoyed a delicious fish dinner at the condo that evening with our friends Wayne and Deanna.  This morning following a fun bicycle ride, we headed to Fort Myers beach for relaxation and a nice long walk on the beach.  Of course I took my camera to see what new sights I could capture…

Day Trip to Sarasota, Florida

Day Trip to Sarasota, Florida

Sarasota, Florida not only has beautiful beaches, it is also home to Ca’ d’Zan, meaning “House of John”, a Venetian-style mansion built-in the 1920s by John Ringling, of the Ringling Brothers Circus, and his wife, Mable.  The John and Mable … Continue reading

Day Trip to Fort Lauderdale

Located on the Atlantic side of Florida, Fort Lauderdale makes a great day trip from the Fort Myers area on the Gulf side.  Yesterday, a new friend “Deanna” and I drove a little over 2 hours to check out what’s changed in Fort Lauderdale since the Spring Break days of the 70’s.  Researching on Trip Advisor, our first stop was the Bonnet House Museum & Gardens, formerly owned by Frederic Clay Bartlett, an artist and his wife, for use as a winter retreat to escape Chicago’s cold winters, dating back to the 20’s.  The tour of the home lasted over an hour.  The architecture was interesting in that there is a courtyard with doors leading to each room (i.e. most of the rooms are not attached to each other, you’re required to go back out to the courtyard to access another room).  The grounds were beautiful with tall palm trees, small ponds, and flowers.

Fun Weekend with Dee

My friend Dee came to visit me in Florida and I’d like to share some of the fun we had.  Friday started off with a trip to Cape Coral Yacht Club for a “fun in the sun” drink and a bite to eat while watching the sunset!  Unfortunately, the weather dropped about 10 degrees shortly before she arrived (68 degrees/48 degrees), so she had her Alpaca sweater and fingerless gloves on for the first evening.

We headed to Fletchers, a local club, for some live music and dancing.

Long Day

Saturday was a long day, a great day, a fun-filled day!  It started with dropping one of my girlfriends off at the airport, followed by a trip to Fort Myers Beach with my remaining friend.  We took a walk on the pier and saw men fishing, pelicans resting…
