Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Squares and Angles

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge this week is all about Squares and Angles.  This is one of my favorite aspects of photography.  I love to experiment with different angles and learn how to compose the photo!

Free Music through Freegal

Recently I discovered Freegal Music, an online site offering free music through your library.  I love anything free!  I’ve been downloading free book rentals from the library to my Kindle for a while.  Anyway, you just log into your library online with your card number and pin…and if your particular library offers the service, it will be listed on their website.  Once you’re in the site and you’ve clicked on a song to download, it will go directly to your iTunes account.  My library allows three downloads per week and the week starts over on Monday.  So…tomorrow I get three more.  They don’t offer all of the songs I’d like yet…for example…Bruno Mars “When I was your Man”; Ed Sheeran “The A Team”, The Civil Wars “Billie Jean”, or Red Hot Chili Peppers “Scar Tissue”.  They add songs frequently, so I’ll check back soon on those.

Today I downloaded Sara Bareilles “Love Song”, Ella James “At Last”, and Wild Belle “Keep You”.  I have over 3360 songs so far on my iTunes.  My iPod is almost full, so eventually I’d like to purchase one that has a larger capacity.

I like most genres of music except rap and some country.  I lean towards soft rock, R&B, some pop, etc.  I love Adele, but who doesn’t?  I went out dancing Friday night with girlfriends and had a great time!  It’s great exercise also!

I can’t remember if I posted this photo recently, but I think it’s the only one of me dancing.  I was in Lisbon, Portugal

A Word A Week Challenge – Hats

As you can easily surmise from looking at these photos…I love hats!  This is the challenge at A Word in Your Ear!  I didn’t really feel comfortable wearing hats when I was younger.  I was a bit shy and felt it brought more attention to myself.  Being almost 6 foot tall demanded enough attention as it was.  As I’ve aged and become more comfortable in my skin…I realize hats are fun and they protect your face from the sun!

Finding Art at your local Thrift Shop

My recent excursion to the local Thrift shop was not only to further develop my photographic skills, but also to illustrate the concept that you can find art and beauty everywhere!

Imperfections in glass make it beautiful!

Interesting Characters at the local Thrift Shop

In my quest to further develop my photographic skills, I went to the local Thrift Shop this week.  I met some interesting characters and thought you might like to meet them also.

This guy tried to joke around with me while I took his photograph.  I think his blue eyes are beautiful, but he may drink too much…look at his big red nose.

Cheers to Art

Last night I went to a place called Cheers to Art in Madeira, Ohio, a suburb of Cincinnati.  Initially I heard about it through the wine meetup I belong to.  They had a private party there.  It’s a place to let your creativity flourish by drinking wine and painting a picture during a two hour class.  I auditioned earlier this week to work there.  They’re opening another location in Downtown Cincinnati and need people to set the room up, check people in upon arrival, tend the bar, clean-up, etc.  They also need people that can instruct a class.  After attending one of the classes, I believe I could do that, with a little more practice!  Either way…what fun!  To watch people create and have fun!

The owner was the instructor last night and I really like the way she made it so simple and fun!

On the Way to Paxtons Grill

One of the advantages to living in the country is passing animals while driving to town.  Monday evening my husband and I went to Paxtons Grill in Loveland, Ohio and of course I had to stop to take photos of these cows!  The color of this first cow is so vibrant!

Essex Studios Art Walk – Part Three

This is Part Three of my series on the Essex Studios Art Walk held in Cincinnati, Ohio this past weekend.  If you missed Part One and Two…go here.  I wandered through a large warehouse for a couple of hours taking photos and talking with artists.

This was painted on one of the hallway walls…

Essex Studios Art Walk – Part Two

This is Part Two of my series on the Essex Studios Art Walk held in Cincinnati, Ohio this past weekend.  If you missed Part One…go here.  I wandered through a large warehouse for a couple of hours taking photos and talking with artists.

This is the young lady that is one of the members of my Meetup group and the artist that we were showing support for by attending the Art Walk.  If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you probably know that I love reflection shots…so when I saw this mirror, it seemed to be the perfect shot for her!

Essex Studios Art Walk – Part One

The Essex Studios Art Walk is an opportunity for the public to view and purchase pieces of art (paintings, sculptures, photographs) from 120+ artists, displayed in a large 2-level warehouse, located near Downtown Cincinnati, Ohio.  Although there are resident Artists who offer regular classes, the Art Walk is only held a few times per year.  Having recently joined a new creative Meetup group, I went to the event to show support for one of our members who was selling some of her work.  I spent about two hours walking the large warehouse, taking photos and chatting with the artists.  There was so much to see, I’ll have three parts to this series.

Travel Theme: Roads

There are so many types of roads!  Flat..hilly..curvy..straight..paved..dirt..rocky..steep!  Where’s My Backpack’s Travel Theme this week is….Roads!

The first three road photos were all taken in Namibia, Africa.  The terrain, at times, seemed alien and made for some great photographs!

Hiking Rowe Woods

Rowe Woods, aka The Nature Center is located in a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio.  My husband and I (and Jake the spoiled hunting dog) went hiking there yesterday.  We probably hiked 4 miles.  Hiking is one of my favorite things to do.  Even in this cold, dreary weather–there is beauty!

WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Lost in the Details

Lost in the Details is this week’s WordPress Photo Challenge!  I’m still amazed that every time I participate in a challenge, I learn something new.  I interpreted this challenge to mean when we take a photo…if we look closely…there is so much more to see.  Some of the photos required cropping and I was pleased with the creativity I was able to utilize with choosing the photos and with the process of what part of the photo to crop.

This was one of my favorites.  It’s a cropped version of the 2nd photo and was taken in Ft. Myers, Florida in November, 2012.  I like the way the letters on the other side show through.  It’s the simple things that make me happy!

Hidden Treasures in Hyde Park and Loveland, Ohio

Hyde Park is an upscale, trendy and centrally located town a few miles from Downtown Cincinnati, Ohio.  A few days ago, I was shopping in the area and took a few photographs.

Travel Confessions

Letizia from Dutch Goes Italian tagged me for the Travel Confessions series. Thank you so much Letizia!  As you can tell from Letizia’s blog name…she’s Dutch, but loves everything Italian!  If you ever plan a trip to Italy…she’s your travel source!

There are a few rules in the Travel Confessions series:

  • Post a photo (or photos) and description(s) of your confession(s) in a new post.
  • Tweet your post with hashtag #TravelConfession and follow/tweet @Traveling9to5
  • Tag 3 other travelers you’d love to see

Travel confession No. 1

I prefer traveling solo…most of the time.  For some of the obvious reasons…you pick what you want to see and do…eat where and what you want…walk at your own pace…decide when you’re ready to leave…don’t have to deal with a traveling partner’s annoying habits (we all have them)–such as complaining..moodiness..overly talkativeness, etc..odd sleep schedule or snoring, etc.

I also enjoy it because I love to meet new people and it’s easier when you’re on your own.  This is a photo from my solo six week road trip through the Southern U.S. back in November.
