On the Street…Cincinnati, Ohio

I finished my second assignment for ISPYCINCY on Sunday.  I was to go to a heavy foot traffic area such as Fountain Square in Downtown Cincinnati or the Hyde Park area and take photographs of stylish/interesting looking people and ask them a series of questions.

I began in Hyde Park (there are a lot of upscale shops and restaurants in the area) and based on past experience, knew that most everyone would be a willing participant!  Here are a few of them…

I really like this girl’s style.  Casual and sporty…

I was to collect their name, occupation, where they would like to be if they could be anywhere else in the world at that moment, what they most liked about Cincinnati, who or what inspired their fashion style, and if they had made a New Year’s resolution, what it was.

This lady is pregnant and was so cute.  She said she just had her hair done!

Mallory’s Senior Photos

Today was so much fun because I spent the day taking photographs all over Cincinnati of a bright and beautiful young woman named Mallory for her senior photos!  We started off at Findlay Market (the oldest Farmer’s Market in Ohio), followed by Union Terminal, and ended at Fountain Square in Downtown Cincinnati!

This cool shot is at Findlay Market with fresh fruits and vegies in the background.  I just bought a new lens, a 50mm F1.8, and love how it blurs the background!

This was her first time visiting Findlay Market and now she can’t wait to go back when she has more time to explore.  She’s the daughter of a friend, so I picked her up at her house and drove Downtown.  We listened to my I-Pod, which had a lot of songs on it that she loves.  I guess that means I’m cool!

Her first outfit was this very bohemian, hippy flash-back style, which I love!

At Union Terminal I used my external flash for some of the shots…

A Few Iconic Landmarks in Cincinnati

Cincinnati’s Music Hall has quite the history!  Completed in 1878, its reputation as one of America’s most haunted buildings comes as no surprise to many, given that it was built on top of a pauper’s cemetery.  I’m intrigued now and would love to take a tour in the middle of the night!

When I took the photograph on Saturday, it was quite cold and I’m sure I appeared a little crazy lying on the ground trying to capture the look I wanted…

Cincinnati Music Hall is located in an area of Cincinnati called Over the Rhine and across the street you’ll find these beautiful Italianate Architecture style homes…

First Assignment for I Spy Cincy…Taking Photos of Iconic Cincinnati Landmarks

I’m so happy to tell you I’m now officially a part-time freelance photographer for an online magazine called “I Spy Cincy”!  My first assignment was to go out and take photographs of iconic Cincinnati landmarks in the snow.  One of my stops was the beautiful Eden Park, which is near downtown Cincinnati.  Just before arriving, I spotted this beautiful tree, parked my car on the road and snapped a shot.

Senior Graduation Photos for Sam

Sam was my third Senior Graduation Photo shoot and what a handsome guy!  His mother and I were waiting for a nice weather day and for the leaves to change some.  She called me a couple of hours before I did the shoot to see if I was available.  We only had an 1 1/2 hours of daylight so I worked fast.  I really like this one.  It’s near the end of the shoot.  The light is falling on his face, but not in his eyes and didn’t cause him to squint.

I love barns and he looks relaxed here…like he’s reaching up for just a moment.

Senior Photos for Domenic

I really enjoyed taking Senior photos of my second cousin…Domenic!

I don’t know him very well and although he seems a bit shy, he seemed to loosen up and enjoy himself during the two-hour photo shoot.  He’s in the school band and not only plays the saxophone, but also the guitar.  As you can see, he’s very handsome.  His father, now deceased, was full-blooded Italian.  This first shot was in my backyard…

This railroad track is located just a two minute drive away.  I used the antique setting for the coloring of the photo…

High School Graduation Photo Shoot

High School Graduation photo shoots are a much-anticipated event for seniors across the United States!  I was excited when my second cousin…Maddie asked me to be her photographer!  As you can see, she’s a beautiful young lady!  She’s intelligent, athletic, and knows what she likes.  After taking photographs Tuesday evening, we arranged for her to come by my house on Wednesday and look through the 300 photographs and decide which were her favorites.  She brought her friend Ellie along, who is also beautiful, bright and a delight to be around!  Ellie recently had her photos taken by a photographer and spent over 10 times the amount Maddie is spending with me and didn’t like a couple of them very well.  She feels that if she had been able to look through the photographs and pick out the ones that she liked her expression in, she would have been more pleased.  Sometimes, just a subtle difference in the shape of the mouth, the look in the eyes, or the angle of the body can change their feeling of the photograph.  I think Maddie really enjoyed being able to have a bigger role in picking out the photographs.  As a bonus…we were able to spend some quality time together…I made dinner…they shot guns for the first time with my husband at our backyard shooting range and even took a tractor ride!

I liked all of the photos, but she had some favorites that weren’t mine and vice versa.  This one we both liked…

Father & Son Photo Shoot

Since starting my photography business, Sherry Lachelle Photography, numerous opportunities have come my way!  I’ll be taking photos at a fundraiser this week, offering a family photo shoot with an 8″ x 10″ at the silent auction, and just finished a father/son photo shoot a few days ago.  I spent almost 1 1/2 hours taking photographs in a variety of poses of my friend and his son at a local park.  There were some specific poses I had in mind, but I was flexible and the setting provided inspiration for some other poses.  It was a lot of fun and also posed some new challenges.   In addition to having to work around people in the background at the park…like a yoga group, other families and couples cuddling, my friend brought his two dogs and although they are extremely obedient, we still had to move them around and be aware of their location.  His son is the cutest little boy as you can see from the photos and also very good natured and well behaved.

This first photo was one of our final shots and also one of the best…

My friend’s son had a cowboy costume, so I brought a cowboy hat for my friend.  They both look quite handsome!  I’m going to purchase Lightroom or Photoshop, so I’ll be able to take things out of photos…like the line in the sidewalk.

Family Photo Shoot

I took photographs of my friends Todd and Laurie’s blended family a few days ago and referred to a written list of some of the poses and ideas I wanted to try, that I had taken with me.  It was a lot of fun.  For this one, I laid on the ground with my legs between Laurie’s legs and had all eleven of them look down at me.  You need to have your flash on for this one.  It would be even better if there were fewer people.

DSC_0017

This was my first “official” family photo shoot and I learned a few things.  We decided to meet at Nisbet Park in Loveland.  This was the first time in a long while that all of them were together, so it was difficult to get or keep their attention while I was directing them on the poses.  I am rather soft-spoken, so I’ll need to learn to raise my voice.  I know background matters, but I was trying to keep them engaged and moving from pose to pose, so I didn’t notice this pole near the son.
